The Spice of Life

     Made to Order

Just steps away from the Freedom Trail, there is a small enclave
called Al Dente.  It takes only one step in the front door to realize
the epicurean adventure that is about to take place with the fragrant
aromas wafting out from the kitchen.  The interior gives forth a light
and airy atmosphere and each table is adorned with fresh flowers.
There is an assortment of dishes with varied ingredients including
chicken, veal, seafood, beef and vegetables, as well as many soups
and salads.  The wine list is extensive with choice recommendations
made by owner Joe Bono.

The appetizers include the taste of fresh local seafood and
produce.  The Mussels Marinara sauteed in white wine with tomatoes
and fresh herbs are a delight from the sea.  Each mussel is plump
and tender with subtle hints of sweet flavor.  The Bruschetta is a
course textured peasant bread, smothered with tomatoes, basil,
parsley, garlic and olive oil.  The combination of flavors evoke
memories of summer gardens bursting with fresh harvests.
Other appetizers including Eggplant Rollatini, Fritto Misto Fiorentina
and Broccoli Fritti are all excellent beginnings.

Chef John DeChristofero is always busy producing some of
the finest meals including Gnocchi Luigi.  The gnocchi are homemade
by DeChristofero.  The Veal Sorrentino is scrumptious layers of
veal, eggplant, prosciutto and mozzarella in a dry vermouth
mushroom sauce.  Rigatoni and Eggplant Norma is a hearty meal
consisting of paper thin eggplant sauteed to perfection.  The rigatoni
has enough sustenance to hold the blended cheeses and marinara
together for a splendid taste sensation.  Other entrees include the
classic Chicken Penne Broccoli or Veal Parmigiana.

We caved from temptation when presented with dessert.
The homemade tiramisu at Al Dente has to be one of the finest
around.  The combination of marscapone cheese, cognac, lady
fingers and espresso is deliciously blended creating a wonderful
treat.  An assortment of cookies, just like your mother used to
cook, is a little lighter, but just as flavorful.  With all these choices,
it is possible to pick the perfect for a superb meal.
